Digi is transitioning from the WR series with the SarOS operating system to the IX series with the modern DAL operating system. The IX series offers numerous advantages, including enhanced security, stability, and support for current technologies such as IPv6, Dual APN, and Zero Touch Provisioning. Here are the key points to consider for migration:

  1. Enhanced Features and Security Standards:
    • DAL is based on Linux and provides features such as Secure Boot, WAN load balancing, and support for native Linux applications.
    • Digi TrustFence™ features ensure maximum protection and compliance with modern security standards.
  2. Hardware Compatibility:
    • Digi offers replacement products for most WR routers:
      • WR11XT: Recommended replacement: IX10
      • WR21: Recommended replacement: IX20
      • WR31: Recommended replacement: IX30
      • WR44R: Recommended replacement: TX54
      • WR44RR: Recommended replacement: TX64 (5G) or TX54
  3. Differences in the Operating System:
    • Python Scripts: WR devices use Python 2, while DAL-based routers support Python 3. Custom scripts must be updated accordingly.
    • User Interface and CLI: The IX series features a modern design and improved functionality.
